A Finding for Science Investigations!

Last week I went to a science training and one of the things our county does is Long Term Investigations.
A long term investigation basically needs to last more than one week.

One of the ideas they shared with us I want to share with you!

They called it Grow Gator because we got to take home a gator they purchased for us but at Michael's I found all these great Grow Me animals that the students are going to LOVE!!!!

They were only $2.00 a piece.......$2.00 a PIECE!!!

I found mine in the sale section so you might have to ask someone for help.

I think I am going to let table groups of students have an animal and they will  come up with their own investigation.  They will have to decide what kind of liquid to put them in, predict how big they will get, keep a journal of observations for at least 2 weeks.
I think it will be cool for all my students to be able to see all the animals!

Goals for the SUMMER!

Now that I kind of have this blog started and feeling my way around I need to start working on my summer goals!  One thing that I would like to accomplish is revamping my Word Study!  I have been hunting around on some of my favorite teacher's websites and I LOVE what Beth Newingham is doing for her word study.  If you haven't checked it out, she has gone into detail of what she does for her 3rd graders. I too do not want my students just to memorize words for their weekly test.  I want them to learn patterns and be able to apply it to words they come across to and be able to figure them out!!  Take a look at her blog that goes into details at http://blogs.scholastic.com/top_teaching/2010/10/my-november-top-ten-list-word-study-in-action.html

So now comes the hard part of developing lists for my second graders!

Wish me luck!!!

My first day blogging!

So I started seeing some of my favorite teacher's starting to have blogs and I decided that I should have one too.  So here I am trying to figure out what to do instead of doing my own homework for my Master's degree :)
